I've just bought a Wii for my son's birthday. SOmeone told me that either DS games or Xbox games will work with the Wii in addition to the games made specifically for Wii. Is this right? Will I need any different controls to work the games other than the Wii mote?
Thank you!

You can't put a DS game into the Wii, but there are some games, like Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, that lets you upload game saves to the Wii. Basically, with Pokemon Battle Revolution, instead of using the Pokemon that are included in the game, you can upload Pokemon that you caught and trained from the DS games Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl to do battle in Pokemon Battle Revolution.

I think the person got confused with Gamecube games and DS games. The Wii can play all Gamecube games.

Also, with the Gamecube, it was possible to get the Gamecube player, which attaches to the bottom of the Gamecube, and from there, you can play Gameboy games on the TV.

Unfortunately, neither DS nor Xbox games work on the Wii. What you might have heard is the the Wii is backwards compatible with Gamecube titles, so your son can play Gamecube games on his Wii, but he will need to plug in Gamecube controllers on the top of the console, and Gamecube Memory Cards if he wishes to save those games. There is also Virtual Console games in the Wii Shop. So far there are a number of original Nintendo (NES), Super Nintendo (SNES), Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, and TurboGrafx games downloadable for a price. So, you can play games designed for a total of 7 consoles, but not DS or Xbox. Hope that helped.

According to Nintendo.com News (http://www.nintendo.com/newsarticle?articleid=-46X41yfm7JY_uWmWtGTpVsAYDfTaH81&page=newsmain) the Wii has what is known as backward compatibility. This means that you are able to play the more than 500 titles that have been published for the Gamcube Console. DS games and Xbox games will not play in the Wii system. Wii has three different types of remotes: Wii Remote, Nunchuk, & Classic Controller. Some games have you attach the Nunchuk to the Wii Remote for additional control options. The Classic Controller is needed to play Virtual Console games and is sold separately. The Wii is compatible with virtually all licensed controllers for the Nintendo GameCube.

Don't buy xBox games or DS games for your Wii! They wont work! The Nintendo Wii is only compadable with games made for the Wii and Nintendo GameCube games. Your son might know about the GameCube so just ask him. But if your going to buy a GameCube game for your Wii you do need to buy a GameCube controller.

Hope he enjoys the Wii!

No, niether one works. Certain DS games (mainly the PokeMon franchise) CAN interact with the Wii. The DS itself wirelessly connects to the system.

As for XBox, that's pure fiction. The Wii can play Gamecube games though. All you need is a GCN controller, and a memory card.

what! i have all three. the only games that work on the wii is wii games and gamecube games. but you can DOWNLOAD directly to the Wii other games for systems like sega, nintendo 64, snes, etc. but those u HAVE TO download from the wii shop channel. so no you cant put a ds game in the system. only wii and gamecube discs in, others like i said download from the wii shop channel. the xbox is not even made by nintendo. also youll need the wii classic controller only 19.99

Many Nintendo Ds games will work with wii games. Because nintendo make both the wii and the ds, they make their games work with one another, they can communicate wirelessly. The nintendo ds games cant be interted into the wii and played that way, but some are interactive. e.g. pokemon diamond and pearl can communicate with Pokemon Battle Revolution, and you can battle pokemon on the wii. nintendo gamecube games can be played in the wii though, all of them

Only some DS Games work, but you have to have a DS. :P Like Pokemon...It is just a function that let's you see your Pokemon on the big screen, but you are still using your DS as a remote.

Gamecube games work, but you need to have the controllers...

All Wii games will work, unless they are third party games. Using third-party games, could damage your wii, especially if it is not modified.. As well as being illegal. I suggest you do not use third-paarty games.

No neither DS nor Xbox just Gamecube and Wii games work on the Wii.

Well expect for the Pokemon DS games. But I think you need to get something extra for that. But definitely NO XBOX.

They are planning to have limited cross-compatability between the DS and Wii, but at the moment, it has no direct compatability, games confirmed to support it include Pokemon Diamond & Pearl.

not yet, but they're definately planning something special with the DS on the wii. After all, it's Wi-Fi!

Wait till next year's E3 and see if Nintendo's gonna do anything for us fans.

some ds games work. Aswell as gamecube games, to play them you need a gamecube controller. Xbox games won't work because they are made by microsoft.

Yes.

On poke'mon battle revolution, you can use your Pokemon from your game on your DS to battle.

Thats the only thing i've heard.

Read about that game on ign or other game sites
