in order to play gamecube games on the wii do you have to have a gamecube controller or can you play the game?

Yes. You have to have a GameCube Controller and GameCube memory in order to save your game data.



Wii Remotes will not work and it won't save game data in the internal Wii memory.



If you have a newer Wii (Nov 2011 or later), then it won't have GameCube ports so you cannot play GameCube games in it.

You need the gc controller. There are gc plugs that's hidden in a compartment.



The older wii can play gc games. I believe the red and blue wii are not backward compatible.
