Question:
How do I put games on my USB in order to play the Wii?

I have a jailbroken Wii with USB ports. After I did as this answer told me:
Get Wii backup manager http://www.wiibackupmanager.co.uk/ and USBLoader GX http://usbloader-gui.googlecode.com/fileā€¦

Format your USB drive to FAT32 if it isn't already. Formatting WILL ERASE everthing on the drive so be sure to save anything you may want first.

On freshly formatted FAT32 USB drive create 2 new folders one named wbfs and the other named apps. Copy the usbloader_gx folder from the download into the apps folder on USB drive. Launch HBC and if you don't see USBLoader GX in your program list press 1 on wiimote and switch it to usb. You can play games from USB....

That GX download link also has the wad file to install a forwarder so you launch GX on USB drive without going through the HBC, do it right from Wii main menu. Or wad to install the full channel onto Wii nand.

Now I dont know how to put games on the USB! It tells me that I cant put files that are too large and now that I think of it I dont know in what form do I need to put the file in. Do i need to put the ISO or hte RAR?

First up, get USB Loader GX running. Once it's up & running, you can install games that you own to the USB HDD by inserting the disc into the Wii. Please be aware that it can take between 1 - 15 minutes (average being about 3 minutes), depending on the size of the game. USB Loader GX is set to split files into 4 GB chunks by default (which is the max file size for FAT32 formats).

If you already have ISO files, get them converted into WBFS files as they're smaller. Visit http://gbatemp.net/topic/199151-wii-game-manager/page__p__2489180 to download a game manager utility program. Just load up the folder that contains the ISO files, then select them, right-click & select "Convert to WBFS -> [2 GB | 4 GB] Split" to start converting them.

As you're running a FAT32 USB HDD, you'll need to split the WBFS files into 2 or 4 GB chunks to fit within FAT32's file size limits, so you'll have up to 4 files for a game ISO file.

Once converted, dump the files to USB:\WBFS\ so USB Loader GX can find them.

Hope this helps!

A WBFS formatted drive is just asking for problems if you have lots of games or constantly add and remove games as there is no way to defrag.

D2x is on version 8 final for regular users and beta9 r49 for people who want to test. Both can be built with ModMii.

Back on topic.....

GX can copy your disks to USB, WBM can transfer games to and from your Wii USB drive.

Run Wii Backup Manager with your USB drive connected to the computer. from the drive 1 tab click the drop down box that say inactive and point to drive letter assigned to WII USB drive. Click the Files tab, now click add, files, and in the window that pops up navigate to you Wii game, can be .iso, .wbfs. or even the .rar, and click open. After it appears in the original window, click the box next to game ID and then click transfer, drive 1.

I keep my GX and Covers folders on USB with my games so it travels better. I have 2 modded Wiis at my house plus I modded my daughter's Wiis at her house, and her uncle's Wii over at his house. So no matter where I take MY drive, I can play MY games same as if I took my big book of Wii disks....

Wohh slow down there... (wiis can only read ISO files not rar...)

Lets learn abt. file systems...

FAT32 (also; WBFS, NTFS, are file systems.....) The reason you cant "and should not use" fat32 is because it is a crappy filesystem that can only hold files up to 4gb

I recommend formatting a WBFS partition with http://wbfsmanager.codeplex.com/ b/c it is most compatible for wii systems. Where ntfs is more advanced.

Also Before your game loader can even play ISO files it must have custom cIOS (usually a patch to IOS249 base56..... AND a trucha bug fix)after that you will be playing games like a pro.

To play newest games you will need to do install D2x v6 after all the crap is installed. 'I use configurable usb loader'
