To be honest, the Wii did go next-generation. However, that doesn't mean bad games can't be made for it. The Wii has graphics that surpass the Playstation 2 and challenge even the Xbox 360 (not HD) in games, such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Kart Wii, and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. However, any video game console can only be as good as the games that are played on it, and unfortunately, many of the games (mostly the third-party ones) made for Wii are lacking in the graphics department. By the way, just so you know, just having motion sensing as a feature on a home console makes it next-gen.

The Wii was made to keep costs down, and to be the system "for everyone", not just "the rich/wealthy" or "the hardcore gamer".

And considering that they've sold more Wiis than PS3s and 360s combined, they've been pretty successfull at exactly what they were planning on.

The Wii didn't have to go HD, the Wii didn't have to have 160gigs of internal storage.

I expect that the next model will be HD, since more and more families are getting digital monitors in their houses, now that analog brodcasting has ended, but for a system released 3 years ago, it wasn't needed.

For 480p, the Wii is capable of generating some nice graphics. Not true-to-life graphics that the others can come close to, but as I said, they don't have to. Any graphics that are so poor as to being "worse than PS2" is simply laziness on the developers.

Wii is this gen

Last time I check motion sensing is next gen

And the Wii is next gen.It has a menu and all the other last gen consoles don't.It also has backward compatibility where last consoles weren't and the ps3 and 360 backward compatibility isn't near as good like the Wii's.And unlike the last gen console the Wii doesn't have a memory card instead it has a small hardrive in the wii or a SD card.

The HD graphics aren't the only thing that makes a conolse next gen

Simple. Nintendo wanted to make the Wii cheap so that more people will buy it.

Just look at the PS3. It's expensive as hell, so not that many people bought it at launch.

The Wii's great and all.

But more made for the younger, starter gamers.

The stuff that us big kids are playing are the following:

Play Station 3's

Xbox 360's

P.S.P
