Gamecube games are compatible with the Wii.

However, you WILL need a Gamecube controller and the Wii functions will ONLY work with the Wii version.

You will need a GameCube controller to play GameCube games. When you put a gamecube disc in the Wii, the Wii turns off all Wii-specific features, like the Wifi, the bluetooth (so no wii remotes), and the system memory (so you will need a gamecube memory card to save your progress).

Also, the game designers realized about half-way through making the Wii version that although Link has always historically been a left-handed swordsman, most people would be swinging their Wii remote in their right hand to swing their sword. They realized that they had made a left-handed world. They got around this by making the Wii game a Mirror-image of the GameCube world (where Link is still left-handed). If you're reading a Wii walkthrough while playing the GameCube game, you need to remember that things that are in the East are now in the West, and Vice Versa (Lake Hylia, for instance, is in the East on the Wii version, its in the West on the GameCube version).

You can't use the wiimote for GC games not even the classic controller, you will need a GC controller and GC memory card.
