Question:
Why do so many Nintendo Wii games suck?

First of all, don't be offended by the question. I own a Nintendo Wii myself. However, I want to know why so many of the games on the console blow. When I go to Target or GameStop, I always see these "kiddie" games for the Wii. I understand that Nintendo is trying to cater to the younger population but why can't Nintendo take the time to create games more suitable for the teenage and adult populations?

The Wii isn't mean "for kids", it's meant "for everyone". This includes kids, but also middle-aged parents and grandparents in addition to the "core gamer".

It's unfortunate that the third party developers puts out crap for games for the most part. But there are good third party games out there. In addition to good first party games.

There's equally as many bad games for the other systems too. They just hide it behind shiny grass, hair, and tears in the graphics. The install base isn't as high for PS3 or 360 as it is in the Wii, so there isn't as much crap out for those systems, but crap still exists.

It's just that the Wii has been as succesfull as it is, is the reason the the crap developers put out quick cheap games that few people will enjoy. If they sell 10,000 units, they'll profit, so it doesn't have to be a block-buster game for them to get their return on investment.

There are some games that are M-rated (Conduit, Madworld, etc.) that was created at a "risk" to see how they would sell once released. If they do well, the chances that developers will make good M-rated games meant for the core gamer will increase. If they don't sell well, then they take their losses and go home.

So if you want to see more M-rated content for the Wii, buy the ones that are out there. You have to speak with your wallet to let them know that that type of game is what you're wanting to play.

Highly recommended titles (opinion based) in order of recommendation. I am aware that you do not care for 3rd party games, nor do I, but heres a few anyhow minus Zelda: 1.) The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: No brainer; a must have for any Nintendo fan. Great controls and story line. 2.) Batalion Wars 2: Extremely addictive once the controls are mastered. 3.) Mercury Meltdown Revolution: For starts it's $19.99. At the beginning it's childish but becomes VERY VERY CHALLENGING. If your into puzzle style games you'll absolutely love this thinking mans game. 4.) Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam: Very fun NON-TRADITIONAL style racing Tony Hawk game. There are still tricks involved but the game isn't based on tricks like games from the past. Half decent RACING game second only to Mario Kart Wii in my opinion. It's a recommended buy once it reaches greatest hit's price. First Place: Super Mario Galaxy Second Place: Mario Kart Wii Third Place: Super Paper Mario Fourth Place: Super Smash Bros: Brawl 1.) Super Paper Mario: If you love Paper Mario for the Game Cube then you will absolutely love this title. However the RPG style has been 86d(removed). This was my favorite feature of the series in the first place. It's a nice addition to any library but I was disappointed by the lack of the RPG luster which I enjoyed SO MUCH. 2.) Super Smash Bros. Brawl: I've never been a fan of the series for starters but I gave it a try. It's fun for a while but ultimately repetitive. The game is made that much more annoying by the controls. If you did however enjoy the game from past installments then I would suggest you get a classic controller. 3.) Super Mario Galaxy: Absolutely love this game. The game play is phenomenal and intuitive. I highly recommend this game above the other Mario style titles. Out the bunch my favorite by a huge margin. I won't spoil the fun but this game is amazing. 4.) Mario Kart Wii: Excellent game. Lives up to it's previous installment. Very fun game for multiple players and challenging for a single player. This title has a high probability of being replayed many many times. However, I was disappointed by the overall length of the game. I beat all three circuits in a single seating. The only advantages of replaying is faster karts and bikes and additional characters. I would recommend buying when the price goes to greatest hits price. Also, don't waste your money buying the ridiculous steering wheel. The Wii remote is sufficient and the wheel seems kinda novel in my opinion. .

There have been plenty of articles ranting about this.

Nintendo isn't great on creativity. They've been using familiar characters to get through things for a while. Nothing on the Wii is really new,.. Nintendo and other consoles had Wireless controllers and wireless special controllers in the 80's. That was the whole backing to their claim " New. Different. First." Only thing it is is different and it's not even all that different then some other companies that got bought out.

So far, the games I've seen for it have been based on an Animation and Computer style that was popular in the late-90's.. early-00's in Japan,.. nothing new there.. it's just new to other countries. Or, of course, the games that every console carries or will carry.

I feel the same towards DS games,.. they are limited, they suck, and they are mostly for 6 year olds. Since DS and Wii carry most of the same thing.. if I could see a wider selection of Wii games.. I expect it would be like stareing at the DS games I've seen. Now, they do like to make Wii Versions and DS Versions of games.. so the game will be the same title but different between the two.. but I don't see a great different.

If you are wondering,.. Nintendo has always been the Game Systems you turn to for Small Children and Older Children. The games are usually focused on 8-12 year olds, they have the most games that children could play, and they don't seem to like to go to Adult and Teen games unless it's already a strong line or it's been popular for a solid year. If you want Shooters and Group play for Teens and Guys.. go with X-Box or whatever their current system is called. If you want the widest variety of games, new games in popular series, adult games, and games for a broad age range.. turn to Playstation. If you want an adorable game for the family to gather around and play with a 6 year old in the group and you need some sports or exercise but can't get out of the house but you can't waste time reading different instructions for each equipment and game.. then stick to Wii.

Added: Wii is NOT the only system with Motion Sensor Controllers. Playstation 2 had some really good ones that were popular in other countries but they were not Hot in the US, so they knew to not waste all resources and advertisement on them.

i noticed the same thing. i think anyone else with a wii has too. wii games are usually hit or miss (in most cases miss) but there are few if any games in between. usually if its made by nintendo its good. and anything else sucks. mario galaxy, smash bros brawl, legend of zelda, metroid, animal crossing. all hits all made by nintendo. bottom line, nintendo isnt focusing on anything else BUT the wii or the DS. and everyone else is focusing on the 360 and the ps3. i think they figure the wii is still selling good, they'll buy it no matter how crappy the games are. why try and spend money making a good game when they can just push out half assed ones and make the same money. im just waiting for punch out.

You said most of the problem yourself. They geared the system to younger kids and adults with video game playing deficiencies. They wanted the adults who never played while young to be able to play with their kids. I bought the Meteoroid game and it was much better to play with the old style controller. But because of their target market, they don't release many of the shooter games or bloody one either.

Here's your two problems-

1. Stop assuming "kiddy" means bad. Games like Super Mario Galaxy are kiddy, but they're excellent.

2. Nintendo doesn't make most of them. It's third parties who release poorly built crap at a cheap price for massive profit.

This is simple...

After the controversy surrounding the hitman release on WII, because the player actually went through the motions of killing people because of WII's inactive ability with the player having to actually move to play games not just push buttons, Nintendo has steered away from that type of game more than likely they or other game developers do not want to be sued when someone dies because the killer learned how to "do it" from a WIi game.

It's because developers are idiots and don't try to build a new engine designed for Wii ground up instead they use ps2 engine instead, the gamecube had better guts then the ps2 so whats the deal.

why the hell do people still have the mind set of "it because it for kids" you idiots that not the reason. do you realise you made the reality of wii what it is by keep saying that. development people will listen to us (mostly) say lets be lazy the kids are newbs and can't tell whatsoever is good. then take your money and make good games for the others and turn around and give Wii 7 year old ps2 ports and slap a new name on it and lazy controls.

"when making Wii games pretend it's a PS2"

they always have excuses like it's not good enough. well well (exposed)

it not because of the Wii capabilities. it's because of you dumb asseς. we can turn it around by not buying there crap so they will learn there lesson and just maybe they will push it to the max next time but it would be to late.

don't they know there still is a bunch of old gamers sticking with Nintendo still. I'm getting really annoyed by the video game industry right now bring back the good 2d ****.

because the target audience is little kids. big game making companies dont waste their time on kiddie games because more money is in the FPS games like Halo and Call of Duty. They know less people will buy it if they make it for wii, so they dont. its basic principles of supply/demand

I know!! It's the only game console that has motion controllers, so you would think they would have a lot of games that would cater to everyone. I think it would be kind of cool if they got Grand Theft Auto for the Wii.

That's how the system is marketed. A lot of people like it who have never liked video games before, and these companies are realizing that they can sucker these people into buying cheap, garbage games that cost them nothing to make. That's why you see so many of them. They're taking advantage of consumers who have never been video game consumers before and don't understand the market.
