My friend and i used to share a Wii, and we each had a character on AA-CF. I recently got my own Wii and SD memory card so I didn't always have to rely on her to play, and did not want to start all the way over with my character so I thought i could just copy the saved data from the Wii to my memory card, but whenever I try this it says it cannot be copied. Why? And is there a way to make it copy? Thank you.

I hate to say it but there's 2 "Laws" that are prevent you from transfer your AC:CF data to an SD card.

1) You're not permitted to transfer ANY Wii save data for a game that includes online support. -- The main reason is that it would wreck havoc with friend codes (which is tied to the Wii).

2) The Animal Crossing strictly follows the "Law of One" -- One Town per storage medium, which cannot be copied AT ALL. Therefore, you can only have one AC:CF town on your Wii.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but it's the extremely harsh truth that you'll have to live with.

You'll just have to start all over again... but you could transfer the stuff from your old character (in your Friend's Town) to your new town... either online or via the DS Suitcase.

There's at least some light against the dark reality here.

Nope. The first response is somewhat correct. There is a copy-protection system to prevent Virtual Console games from being copied from system to system, but that is different. The Wii keeps a log of what games you have the right to have a file for on your system. For VC games, the only way to get an entry in the log for a game is through the Wii Shop Channel. However, for disk-based games, you can just pop the disk in and make it create a save file, then delete the save file it just made and copy your SD card one over.

What you are running into is the protection that prevents files from being copied *to* an SD card, which is completely separate. Any developer can lock down their game saves like this, but it only really is necessary (and thus only really used) for games with Friend Codes. If they didn't lock these save files down, it would be possible for multiple people to try to play a game online with the same Friend Code, which would be very problematic.

It's because it's a game that uses wi-fi. I've faced this problem several times when trying to copy my mario kart data, and guitar hero, but there's a simple solution.....just go to a website like this ,http://wiisave.com/ and u could download the saves to ur sd card. And trust me, i'm not one of those advertising people trying to get u to use my website, i'm just trying to help.

it won't replica online video games simply by fact once you flow it to a distinct wii, it won't play on the comparable time as yet another wii. you won't be able to replica online video games yet you are able to replica offline video games.
