Twilight Princess is not a sequel to any of the previous Zelda games.

It's not a true sequel, but if you're a Zelda veteran, you'll definitely recognize a lot of elements, characters, etc. But you don't need to have played a Zelda game prior to this one to understand what's going on, it's fun in and of itself.

In Zelda chronology, it's best guessed to have taken place 100 or so years after Ocarina of time, after The Minish Cap and before Phantom Hourglass. Read below for more!

It's said to be a distant sequel to Zelda: Ocarina of Time, in the "child Link" period. When you beat that game, it caused a time paradox in the series and now there are 2 time lines. BWAHAHAHA!

all Zelda games are their own separate games usually.

the only sequels were Majora's Mask (sequel to Ocarina of Time) and Phantom Hourglass (sequel to Windwaker). and even then, you don't need to play the first game to understand the sequel.

it is kind of a sequel, or is it a prequel

if you look at ganon, he looked the same in another one of the games. I am thinking it was ocarina of time but it may have been majoras mask. also nintendo said something about this a few years ago when it was released.
