I have bought the Donkey Konga Gamecube game with Bongos as a gift for my brother who has a Wii. I know that the game is compatible with the Wii, but will he also need a Gamecube controller to play it?

For this game, no. He only needs the Bongos as a control method.
However, if you want to save game progress, you will also need a GameCube Memory Card.

Yes... if you want to play Gamecube games on the Wii you will need a Gamecube controller. The Wiimote is incompatible.
Edit: the answers below are right. In this particular game the bongos act as the the controller. A Gamecube controller is not necessry.

If you have the bongos they will work with the Wii perfectly. You don't need a Gamecube controller, the bongos do everything. I strongly suggest buying a gamecube controller to play other Gamecube games.

No, the bongos will be fine.
You need a GameCube controller to play other GameCube games though (except for games that require a bongo controller or dance mat).

yeah, the wii can play any gamecube games still. im guessing that the "bongos" have the type of connection that a regular gamecube controller has, and the wii does have those types of ports, so in simple terms, yes you can.
