What do I need to purchase along with the Nintendo Wii Console?

I am married, 22 years old. My husband and I are going to buy a Wii for my birthday. We are the same age, and we will both use it. I loved the Super Nintendo, especially the Super Mario World. We own a PS2, and my husband and I both enjoy the college sports games (Baseball and Football), neither of us are big professional sports fans.

I have been doing a lot of research, and the more I do the more confused I get. I want to be able to buy the Wii and everything I will need all at once.

A few things I am confused about:
1. I don't want to have to use rechargeable batteries. What can I buy a charging station for where I can avoid using batteries all together?
2. What kind of controllers do I need to get?
3. I have wireless internet at home, what do I need to buy to connect my Wii?
4. What games would you suggest?

Please tell me anything I need to know before buying it, anything I need to buy to go with it, and anything I could buy that will make it a better experience.

1. I suggest getting Nykos charging station. It comes with two special batteries (not AA) to power the controllers. You will need it, because the controllers gobble through AA batteries very quickly. You need some kind of battery because the controllers are wireless.

2. You need the Wiimote (the main one) for all games. The nunchuck is essential for some games, but not all. I suggest you start with two Wiimotes and two nunchucks. You get one of each with the Wii itself, so buy another Wiimote and another nunchuck. I would look into getting the WiiPlay game, which comes with a fun game and the Wiimote.

3. Nothing. The Wii has a wireless reader in it already, so it will simply detect your router. Just enter your routers code and password, and you're good to go.

4. For games:

Super Mario Galaxy

Mario Strikers Charged

Mario Kart Wii

NCAA 2009 (just came out today)

1) I'm a little confused about your question here, because one way or another you have to use a certain type of rechargeable battery - either just rechargeable AA's, or a rechargeable battery made specifically for the Wii Remote (http://www.ebgames.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=63662). I assume this second option is the one your looking for?

2) The wii comes with one Remote and one Nunchuck. The remote is where most of the motion control actions happen, and the nunchuck has an analogue stick on it (like on a PS2 controller), though it also has motion control functionality (Yahoo search these for more info). Most games use the Remote, some require the Nunchuck as well. Sometimes certain games (a lot of Virtual Console games) work with the classic controller, a more tradition controller (kind of like the SNES controller) which plugs into the Remote. Depending on what games you end up getting, you can determine what combinations of controllers you'd need. (You can also use Gamecube controllers for some games)

You can check what games use what controllers on the back of the game box, or with a little Yahoo searching.

3) You should be able to connect your Wii to the Internet using your wireless network without buying anything else (its just a matter of a few menu settings of your Wii)

4) If you liked Super Mario World, then Mario Galaxy is a cool transition into the next generation of video games. For sports games, the MLB Power Pros series is really great (I don't like Pro baseball all that much, but I really enjoyed last years version, and I think the 2008 version is due out soon). I think most of the EA games for Wii are pretty weak so far, so I couldn't recommend any (even though college football will be available on Wii this year). I dunno if you enjoy soccer, but Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is a fantastic game that really takes advantage of the Wii's functionality.

And I dunno if you like racing games, but I'll also include Mario Kart Wii, just because its one of my favorite games to play with other people...

(and then of course, theres all the Virtual Console games you can download, including Super Mario World, also one of my favorites!)

A few things I am confused about:

"1. I don't want to have to use rechargeable batteries. What can I buy a charging station for where I can avoid using batteries all together?"

Buy a charging station that comes with rechargable battery packs designed for the wii controller. Then you dont have to bother taking the batteries out, just stick your wiimote into the charger.

"2. What kind of controllers do I need to get?"

Just the wiimotes + nunchucks. Maybe a classic controller/gamecube controller if you want to play games like super smash bros brawl

"3. I have wireless internet at home, what do I need to buy to connect my Wii?"

Nothing else needed to buy, you just a need a working wireless router.

"4. What games would you suggest?"

Super mario galaxy

Mario Kart (you can buy wii wheels for that)

Super smash bros brawl

Comes with Wii Sports

Games depend on what you personally like aswell.

1. you are going to need batteries regardless, just stock up on some AA batteries at costco.

2. if you like old school games that you can buy from the wii store, i would suggest getting the pad controller, that way you can play classic games from the super nintendo and regular nintendo. however... your standard wii controller will work.

3. if you already have a wireless router then you won't need anything to connect.

4. i would suggest getting wii sports because that will give you an extra wii controller. i would also suggest mario cart for wii since its just as much fun as that on super nintendo.
