how to use only your gamepad and not the tv for your wii u?

So I recently got a Wii u and I was wondering if it was possible to just use the gamepad and not just the tv for it? I need help

It depends on the games you are playing. Some games will play on the pad only, but many only use the pad as a second display (or even not at all!
