Help me Soft-mod my Wii?

Question

Ok, some guides are way too confusing or don't apply to my situation, so I'm going to outline what I have here and hope one of you awesome people can help me out :) Either point me in the direction of a guide that you KNOW works or give me step-by-step instructions as best you can! Thanks so much!

- New 2011 Wii, version 4.3U
- I have a 2GB SD Card which I plan to use for the modding *AND* to play games off of. Not big games obviously but just things like Animal Crossing and Super Paper Mario (both about 400 MB)
- I have the "LetterBomb" program - not sure what to do with it yet.
- I have no games except Mario Kart, so I can't do any of the hacks that involve Indiana Jones or whatever.
- I'm extremely new at this, and paranoid!

u shuld have waited and bought a wii u.

However, it's difficult modding a wii 4.3 unless u know someone who does it.

but the best way( if u wuldn't want to spend) is to softmod it. u culd find many vids on youtube which may help u.

At the same time doing it all on ur own may brick ur wii.

i've hard modded my wii and then soft modded it and it works perfectly fine.

so, hard modding wuld make pirated discs to works, so u culd then soft mod it easily.

Woah, that new letterbomb is awesome! You used to need a save game exploit to install homebrew on 4.3... But anyways..



No need to be paranoid, just follow instructions and you'll be fine!



Well, I'm not familiar with letterbomb because it just came out 5 days ago (Lucky you!). But Hackmii has put a site up that will give you the necessary files, you just need your mac adress (Wii settings < Internet < Console Settings);

After opening your message, it should launch the hackmii boot.dol, or .elf and you should get a warning screen, press 1 to continue.



Once in the hackmii installer, it will tell you a bit of info about your Wii, press a to continue.

Then you'll have a list of a few things.

First, install The Homebrew Channel.

Second, go into bootmii, and hit 'Prepare a SD card', then install bootmii as an IOS.

You won't be able to install bootmii as boot2, or dvdx on the newer Wiis unfortunately,

so back out to the main menu and hit 'Exit'



You can now delete the letterbomb exploit off your sd card.



Once you have the homebrew channel installed, you'll need to patch IOS36;

After that's done, you can install Priiloader. It helps make up for not being able to install bootmii as boot2. It can also be used to block game updates and a few other nifty things;

I'd suggest making a back-up with bootmii now, after getting the backup, just place the files on your computer, ready to be fetched if needed;

As for loading your games, I'd highly suggest getting something other than a 2gb sd card.

Although it's possible to load games in a different format, loading from the WBFS format works the best.

Homebrew apps cant load off a WBFS however, so you'll either need to partition your 2gb sd card, (Not sure if you can partition something that small...) or you could have your homebrew apps placed on the sd card, and have a usb drive formatted to WBFS with your games. But an external hard drive is ideal.

You can use this program to format your drive to WBFS, and add games to it;

When you have your WBFS formatted drive with games on it, you'll just need a launcher. I'd suggest using Neogamma, it's a pretty straight-forward reliable loader;

Edit: Wanted to just go through the various things that are wrong from that idiot that tried posting "his" guide



First, youtube is a bad place to get info. It can easily be outdated, or simply wrong.

Indiana PWNS is now an outdated method for installing, as letterbomb can be done without a game.

There's no need to use MMM, just makes things more complicated.

Downgrading is a flat out idiotic thing to do, you benefit absolutely NOTHING from it, you can even brick your Wii doing it.

Although DARKCORP can be nifty, but it can also cause some issues, it's just really not worth it.

And patching your mIOS would be completely pointless because you can't load from burned discs on a new Wii, and you can only load GC isos from a USB with a WODE Jukebox (Modchip)

You need a plain sd card not the sdhc?(not sure if thats right). The wii won't use that type sd card until after it's hacked. You should have received readme files in your download, read them.

You will need LEGO Indiana Jones Original Adventure

1. Download & Extract to SD Card

2. Insert SD Card into Wii, Go to Wii Settings, Data Management, Save Games, Wii, SD

3. Copy Indiana PWNS save data for your region

4. Start LEGO Indiana Jones Original Adventure game, load save game slot 1

5. When the game loads, you will be in Barnett College. Walk through the Courtyard to the Art Room, approach the left character on the podium. When it zooms on him, choose the two silhouettes, staggered, with an arrow pointing between them

Step 1 - WAD Installs

Warning: Never Uninstall IOS, You Will Brick Your Wii

1. Start HBC, Press Home, Launch Bootmii

Multi-Mod Manager Starts (via cboot2)

2. Select WAD Manager - Press A

3. Press 1 to Install all WADs - Press A

Be sure all the WADs install without error

4. Press B two times - MMM Main Menu

Warning: Never Uninstall IOS, You Will Brick Your Wii



Downgrade to System Menu 4.1 (Optional)

Do NOT do this before installing all WADs without error (you will brick)

Network Install

From the main menu,

1. Select Manage System Menu, Press A

2. Install System Menu 4.1

3. Press B - main menu



Install Priiloader (Brick Protection)

1. In MMM Select App Manager - Press A

2. Select Priiloader - Press A

Priiloader Installer will load

3. Read the warning - Press +/A to install

After Priiloader installs, it may give error 106 or freeze - This is normal

NOW FROM HERE IT GETS TRICKY IN THE VIDEO IT SAYS THAT U HAVE TO GO ON BOOT MII OR SOMETHING. BUT AT THE SAME TIME HE SAYS THAT IF U HAVE BOOT2 DEFINETLEY DO THAT, SO DO IT.

4. Hold Reset - Priiloader will load IT WONT LOAD IF U DID WITH BOOT2 IT WILL INSTEAD GO ON THE MMM MENU. GO ON PRILOADER SETTINGS THERE U WILL FIND THE STUFF WRITTEN BELOW.

I SUGGEST THAT U DO THIS WITH UR DAD OR SOMETHING CUZ THIS IS REALLY TRICKY

5. Select System Menu Hacks - Press A

6. Enable Block Disk Updates, Block Online Updates and others if you want

7. Be sure to save

If MMM loads at boot, Select Manage Priiloader, Edit Priiloader Hacks, enable needed hacks

If you don't know what the hack does - you do NOT need it

Your wii should now block Disk Udates and Online Updates



PriiLoader Settings (Optional)

You can set you wii to boot the System Menu, HomeBrew Channel, USB Loader GX or any other app you want. Settings are found in Priiloader, Settings. Set the autoboot and return to what you want.

Example: Set the autoboot and return to installed file, now your wii will autoboot to your USB Loader GX or HBC

Excellent option for those with kids



Install DARKCORP (Optional) BUT YOU KNOW WHAT DONT ITS RISKY

DARKCORP enables backup disks to be loaded from the regular Wii Disk Channel, without using a loader.

Newer Wii's Do Not Support DVD Media, This Will Not Fix This Limitation.

Now you have some apps on your SD Card, Enjoy. Included apps: Homebrew Browser, MPlayer CE, NeoGamma, GC Backup Launcher and USB Loader GX. All apps install to the SD Card, or optionally you can install them to a FAT32 formatted USB device. Apps should be installed like this: SD:\apps\app name\boot.dol otherwise they will NOT work.
