I just tried to use my classic wii controller that I ordered, and it isn't working. All I have to do is plug it in to the wii remote right? If that is wrong then please tell me the correct way to do it.

What game are you trying to use it with? Make sure the game is compatible with the classic controller - or it will not work at all.

Did you make sure it was plugged into the Wiimote before you loaded the game?

I hope you get it working - if not then please give us more information. Thanks.

EDIT: For playing Gamecube games you will need a gamecube controller, which plug into ports under the flap on the side of the Wii (or the top if you have it standing up).

There are four controller ports and two memory card ports under that flap.

You will need a Gamecube controller to play gamecube games, and also a memory card if you want to save.

The classic controller that plugs into the wiimote is generally used for the download virtual console games from the Wii Shop Channel (as well as some wii games) but can't be used for Gamecube games I'm afraid.

Can you take it back to the store?

EDIT2: There IS a wireless gamecube pad, one part plugs into the ports under the flap and the pad is wireless and connects to that. The pad you want is called a WAVEBIRD.

I think they are pretty tough to get hold of now but we got one a year ago for our gamecube and use it on the Wii now with no problems and it's a great pad.

I hope you manage to get one. Good luck. :)

FYI, there are wireless gamecube controllers, but the only one that works really well is the original Nintendo "Wavebird". There are numerous other off-brand wireless gamecube controllers, and some work moderately ok, but the Wavebird works the best--for a wireless controller, that is. The wired one works better though.

And even when it comes to wired controllers, the original Nintendo controller works the best--we have a number of different ones and the off brand ones simply aren't as good.

There are a number of Wii games where you can use either the Wiimote or a Gamecube controller and guess what? For certain Wii games, many seasoned gamers much prefer the Gamecube controller over the Wiimote. Especially for playing on-line games such as SSBB (Super Smash Brothers Brawl) or Mario Cart--the gamecube controller offers superior control, providing an "edge" that can help you win.

We recently bought Mario Cart and both my husband and grandson tried using the wheel/Wiimote combo that came with the game, and neither one were making much progress--both placing 12th, or dead last. They then switched to using Gamecube Controllers, and immediately both went to winning the races. They then tried it with SSBB, and were both amazed at the improvement in their games.

So once you buy a Gamecube controller you may find it will come in handy not just for playing Gamecube games, but for certain Wii games as well.

Yea...caffine has a point

Are you trying to use it with a Wii game?

If so it will not work, it's not made for it.

The classic, the gamecube controllers are use on the Wii so you can play games from Nintendo 64, SuperNintendo and Sega...etc..etc

** if you are trying to use for a downloaded game, when you downloaded it, it would have indicated what controllers will work for that game with an icon (pic)

You can't use the classic controller on a gamecube game. It only works on certain Wii games, WiiWare games, and VC games.
